IMPROVING SOLO-PRACTICE

The Challenge

Following user interviews, Drama and acting students expressed their struggle to find convenient and effective ways to practice their lines and improve their performance outside of formal rehearsals as they heavily rely on having on other actor to practice with.

HOW MIGHT WE CREATE A PLATFORM THAT ALLOWS DRAMA AND ACTING STUDENTS TO PRACTICE THEIR LINES INDEPENDENTLY WHILE SIMULATING REAL INTERACTIONS?

DUOLOG is a Flask web app that uses AI voices to enable students to practice independently. The app reads out the parts of other actors. Users can adjust the voices of these roles to match the play and their preferences. DUOLOG allows enhanced customisation to meet the demands of different plays.

From feedback on the app, there are further features that could be added. For example prompting, when a learner gets stuck, the Ai could prompt the user, allowing the learner to think and process their thoughts. Additionally artificial variety in the voice of the AI could better simulate the unpredictability of practicing a play.
